NIGHT-by Elie Wiesel Quotes "Remember this," he went on. "Remember it forever. Engrave it into your minds. You are at Auschwitz. And Auschwitz is not a convalescent home. It's a concentration camp. Here, you have got to work. If not, you will go straight to the furnace. To the crematory. Work or the crematory-the choice is in your hands." (pg. 6)

"At about noon they brought us soup a plate of thick soup for each person. Tormented though I was by hunger, I refused to touch it. I was still the spoiled child I had always been. My father swallowed my ration." (pg. )"It was good to be under a Jew. He was called Alphonse. A young man with an extraordinary aged face, he was entirely devoted to the cause of "his" block. Whenever he could, he would organize a cauldron of soup for the young ones, the weak, all those who were dreaming more about an extra plateful than of liberty." (pg. 4)"A-771?''That's me.''After eating, you're to go to the dentist.''But I haven't got toothache.''After eating. Without fail.'I went to the hospital block. There were about twenty prisoners waiting in a queue in the front of the door. It did not take long to discover why we had been summoned it What I learnedThis shows me that you had to work very hard. If you didn't work hard, the punishment would be harsh. You would be sent to the crematory, and then you would be burned to ashes. I then realized that life in a concentration camp was horrible. They had no regard for old people or young children. Very few people were lucky to survive the horrors of a concentration camp. This shows me how horrible the Jews were treated and not fed well. They had stale bread and watery soup. But eventually, even though it was as disgusting as it was, hunger was more powerful and they gave in and ate the food, for it was what would keep them alive. We are so lucky with all the food accessible to us, compared to those people in the camps.I found out that it was better to be under a person who was like you, a prisoner. They would treat you better than an SS soldier. If you were under a German soldier, the rules would be much harsher and they wouldn't do as many favors as the Jewish leaders. They thought nothing of the Jews and didn't care about the condition of them.I realized that when prisoners went to the dentist, it was not to get a regular check up. It was for the removal of the gold teeth, which would be taken from the Jews and given to the Germans. This also showed me that the Nazis collected things in groups so they could sell and make money from. Some other things were clothing, gold, watches, hair, and briefcases.was for the extraction of our gold teeth." (pg. 4)"It was daytime when awoke. And thenI remembered that I had a father. Since the alert, I had followed the crowd without troubling about him. I had known that he was at the end, on the brink of death, and yet I had abandoned him." (pg. 101)I learned that at the concentration camp, it was hard to think and take care of people other then yourself. For example, Eliezel forgot his father, because he was too busy taking care of himself. "Every man to himself" was the famous quote. Eliezel had to face the fact that his father was close to death, but he had not cared because he was already used to all the killings and deaths in the camp. But it was also easier for him, because he no longer had to take care of someone other then himself. Still, though he had some remorse in forgetting about him. It's so hard to take care of someone else while you are in the same circumstances, trying to survive the extreme conditions. Please note that this sample paper on quotes on "NIGHT" is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. At a time when presidents lie, steal, and do anything else morally wrong, Harrison Ford sets the standard for what a president should be in one of this decade's most entertaining films. Director Wolfgang Petersen has given audience members a pro-American thriller. Air Force One thrives because it has a riveting plot, tremendous acting, and superior special effects. The movie starts with a U.S. led commando raid in Kazakhstan that captures a renegade Russian leader, General Radek (Jurgen Prochnow). James Marshall (Harrison Ford), the President of the U.S., declares that the U.S. will no longer tolerate with any terrorist group. No sooner does he make that statement then a group of Radek supporters, led by Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman) and assisted by secret service agent Gibbs (Xander Berkeley), hijack Air Force One. They demand that Radek be released from prison or they will execute a passenger every half-hour. What they did not count on is that Marshall did not leave the plane on an escape pod, but instead he remained on board where he will try and save the lives of his wife (Wendy Crewson), teenage daughter Alice (Liesel Matthews), and other white house workers. From this point on it is an ongoing plane ride with Marshall taking out terrorists and trying to prevent the plane from crashing. Although the plot does seems like the ordinary hijacked plane story people have seen so many times, Air Force One does add a lot more to it. There is enough novelty in this film that the audience will never be bored, and everything has a fresh feel to it. Most importantly, this film gives America something to hope for. With politics in this country seeming more corrupt everyday, this film stands out in that it shows a hero president who values morals above all else. This gives America an image of what a president should be and can be if the public takes the proper actions to put some one of such virtue in office.Another remarkable part about this film is the acting. Harrison Ford provides another stellar performance. He really sets the tone with his speech at the beginning of the film. His seriousness, facial reactions, and tone of voice really make the film seem more serious and realistic. Another notable actor is Gary Oldman who plays the lead terrorist Korshunov. He does an excellent Russian accent that makes him seem so much more communistic and evil. The manner in which he speaks to the president's daughter when he is threatening the U.S. government is very frightening. His performance is so realistic that the audience will want to see this man brutally murdered.

The technical aspect of this film is superb also. I would not be surprised if the plane created for this film is the actual Air Force One. Everything on the plane seems so genuine and authentic. Director Wolgang Petersen creates phenomenal action sequences. One in particular is when some of the passengers are trying to escape from Air Force One and get on to another plane by sliding on a rope. It seems as if the characters are actually in the air hanging on for their lives 0000 feet up in the air. Many scenes will keep audiences sitting on the edge of their seats in tenseness and anticipation. If I had to rate this movie using the four star scale, taking into account I saw it on video at home, I would have to give it four stars. This film had all the aspects of a quality movie capturing plot, great acting, and exceptional action sequences. Most importantly, this film promotes good moral values. It proves that in the end, the good guys always prevail. Please note that this sample paper on air force one flies high is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on air force one flies high, we are here to assist you. In recent years, there has been a stark increase in the number of students studying abroad. There are several reasons to this phenomenon. In some cases, they want to study a subject that is not available in their own country. Also, some may want to experience a different education system and studying environment. In this essay, I shall proceed to explain the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad. To begin with, studying abroad would be a challenging and rewarding experience for the student. He would be able to learn to lead an independent life, take care of his own needs and make wise decisions. For example, he would have to cook his own meals and wash his own laundry. Hence, this would inculcate a sense of responsibility in the student. In addition, a student would be able to get exposed to a refreshing environment in terms of culture, way of life and studying styles. In the education institute abroad, there are students of distinct nationalities and background. Thus, interaction among students would lead to increased understanding of the different cultures. The student would then be able to appreciate their own culture through activities and events held on campus. Subsequently, studying abroad would help widen the students social circle. Friends can help alleviate some problems such as loneliness and homesickness. Hence, having a friend is a useful method to survive overseas. Furthermore, making a new friend is a beneficial exercise to co-operate and work with others. These are essential skills to prepare them for the working environment.

College Essays on Advantages and disadvantages of studying overseas.

Finally, going overseas to study would probably be a stepping stone to a higher income. Every international student wishes to graduate with a prestigious degree from abroad, from universities in places such as Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard or Yale. This would probably enable them to have an edge over the others who study in their local universities. Consequently, it would enable them to get their preferred job.On the other hand, studying abroad might not be an easy, pleasant and happy experience for every student. By going overseas, they would be leaving their comfort zone. They would have to take care of themselves and adapt to the new environment, which may be a difficult task for some as they are used to being dependent on their maids and family. Moreover, without the presence of their family members, the students would have no one to turn to either in times of need or in joy and laughter. This way, it would create more worries for the parents. Also, without the proper guidance and discipline from the parents, they might be more easily influenced by bad company. As a result, they would neglect their studies and this defeats the main purpose of going overseas for higher education.Lastly, some of the students might not be financially able to support their education overseas, which can be an expensive affair. As a result, they might not be able to concentrate on their studies, as they would have to worry about financing their education. Moreover, they would be under pressure to perform well so as not to disappoint their parents nor waste their parents money. In conclusion, I feel that the advantages of studying abroad outweigh the disadvantages. Studying overseas would offer a better experience, provided the students would be to afford the cost, and view living and studying in a different culture as not an obstacle, but an opportunity to make them both mentally and physically stronger. Please note that this sample paper on Advantages and disadvantages of studying overseas. is for your review only. Renaissance Art The term renaissance, describing the period of European history from the early 14th to the late 16th century, is derived from the French word "rebirth". This period is described as the revival of the classical forms originally developed by the ancient Greeks and Romans, and an intensified concern with the secular life--interest in humanism and assertion of the importance of the individual. The renaissance period in art history corresponds to the beginning of the great western age of discovery and exploration, when a general desire developed to examine all aspects of nature and the world. A lot of art was based on Christianity and the music reflected this most of the music was hymns which are now sung in churches around the world today. Art, during this period, became valued -- not merely as a vehicle for religious and social identity, but even more as a mode of personal, aesthetic expression. The term early renaissance characterizes virtually all the art of the 15th century. Early renaissance artist sought to create art forms consistent with the appearance of the natural world and with their experience of human personality and behavior. These artists made an effort to go beyond straightforward transcription of nature, to instill the work of art with ideal, intangible qualities, endowing it with a beauty and significance greater and more permanent than that actually found in nature. Also during this time Shakespeare was writing plays Artists such as Donatello in sculpture, Masaccio in painting and Fillipo Brunelleschi in architecture were part of this period. Masaccio for instance gave figures the "illusion" of live beings when characters and reactions were individualized. He also made use of perspective by exploring linear (a vanishing point), and atmospheric perspective (effects produced from a single light source). He also made use of gradations or light and darkness (Chiaroscuro) to give illusions of weight, substance and bulk to the bodies. The art of high renaissance, however sought a general, unified effect or pictorial representation or architectural composition, increasing the dramatic force and physical presence of a work or art. Also, the culmination and fulfillment of the previous period when the problems of perspective, light and shade, foreshortening, space composition, painting in oil, texture and movement were solved.

A few artist of genius, among them Leonardo da Vinci, Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian created this period. Their works revealed mastery of the techniques and their goal to transcend nature. Leonardo da Vinci for instance was considered to be the paragon of Renaissance thinkers, engaged as he was in experiments of all kinds and having brought to his art a spirit of restless inquiry that sought to discover the laws governing diverse natural phenomena. Michelangelo, in a different way presented his universal talents in separate fields from sculpture, painting to architecture. Raphael, a man of very different temperament, known for his paintings of Madonnas and frescoes. And Titian, an artist who represented the transition from the Renaissance to Baroque due to his long creative career focusing on genres. Most significant about the artist of the renaissance is that they were disciples of nature. Their desire to re-create the forms and styles of classical art inspired the development of new artistic techniques. They emerged as creators, sought after and respected for their erudition and imagination. Their works did not merely copy nature but instead transcended it. Renaissance artists placed human concerns and feelings at the center of their works. Such optimism combined with intellectual curiosity and increasing worldliness made it possible for art to be valued. Please note that this sample paper on renaissance is for your review only. There are various instances of imagery in Ethan Frome. Edith Wharton uses metaphors throughout the entire book. I noticed many but two particular ones were most prominent. The symbolism helps develop the characters in the book. It helps pull us into the book making us feel as if we are truly there. The first metaphor that I noticed was how the color red was brought up in the entire book. Edith Wharton used many different shades of red in describing objects in the novel. Each time that red is used it symbolizes something different. The opening red metaphor that was brought up in the book is when Ethan is waiting for Mattie so that they can walk home. I think that by the way he is looking and thinking about her, the red scarf in her hair is representing lust. It may not be deep lust towards her but more of a hopeful desire. The next thing that we see is Mattie blushing. Many times when Ethan and Mattie are together, her face will turn crimson. They both are secretly in love with each other so she feels self-conscious when she is with him. A different time that red is in Ethan Frome is Mattie's quilt. Ethan is the person who notices the quilt is red. Edith Wharton is yet again symbolizing his love and desire to be with her. Being with Mattie is all that he can fantasize about. Ethan is so in love with her that he notices every little detail about her and her lifestyle. I think that because her quilt is something personal it is symbolizing how Ethan wishes to be in a more personal part of her life. However, he knows that his desires are not possible because of Zeena. Another instance in the book where red appears is when Ethan remembers the summer picnic him and Mattie attended together soon after she arrived at Starkfield. Ethan reminds Mattie that she was wearing a pink hat. Edith Wharton is trying to show because pink is an early shade of red it is symbolizing the early stage of Ethan and Mattie's love for each other. It was more like a warm friendship that they were beginning to develop.

Write a research paper on Ethan Frome

The last metaphor for the color red was the pickle dish. I think that the pickle dish represents Ethan. The pickle dish is one of Zeena's most important things but she keeps it hidden and unused on a top shelf. She does the same thing with Ethan. It does not even seem like they are married because they hardly communicate and he is just like a possession to her. Then while Zeena is gone, Mattie gets it down from the shelf with out asking. That stands for how Zeena considers Mattie taking Ethan away from her. The pickle dish is broken unintentionally and when Mattie and Ethan try to hide it, Zeena finds out. The metaphor for that is that Mattie and Ethan try to hide their love for each other and Zeena suspects it.The second important use of imagery in Ethan Frome is the pet cat. When Zeena goes to see the doctor and Mattie and Ethan are having their one night alone together the cat always seems to come between them. I see Zeena as the pet cat. She is there to remind them that Ethan is married and it would be wrong for him to do anything with Mattie. "They drew their seats up to the table, and the cat, unbidden, jumped between them into Zeena's empty chair."(Page 8) Then when they are about to have a close moment together holding hands the cat jumps up on to the table and knocks off the forbidden pickle dish. I think that this symbolizes Zeena's efforts to separate Mattie and Ethan from each other. In addition, when they are sitting by the fire alone together Ethan is feeling hopeful that something will happen but then the cat jumps up into Zeena's rocking chair. This reminds Ethan of his wife. It is a small thing but it ruins the moment completely.Edith Wharton makes good use of imagery in Ethan Frome. You can see many different things as symbols. I think that each one helps refine and enhance each character to a point where you can really think how they are thinking and more fully understand them personally. I enjoyed this book and all of the author's metaphors. Please note that this sample paper on Ethan Frome is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Ethan Frome, we are here to assist you. Is there any meaning or purpose to human life?We dont seem to be heading anywhere in a broader sense. If someone were to ask me this, what would I say?We have made matter and energy.

We have discovered and invented. We have made our lives better by our own might.May be we are the masters of the universe if we are the only living beings. We have learnt about our world and the worlds within our own world. But have we learnt about the world outside our own world. For that do we know whether there is a world greater than out world? We are forever being torn between the needs of the body and the mind.May be we mastered matter in the sense that we know how to mould and change it according to out needs. But all our lives we end up slaving for matter. Creating matter, creating energy to run matter, fighting for matter, squatting for matter, squealing, crawling for matter, living and dying for matter. And we cannot figure out what we am doing or even what we am trying to achieve.May be we are torn between the needs of the mind and body.At this point in life when I can call myself acquainted with the world and hence in a position to comment on the various aspects of life.In all that I have seen and experienced so far, I can only comment that truth is relative. Hence I cannot give the truth or conviction but I can only give perspectives. Because I think I am one of those people who see things from too many dimensions and there is an element of truth and ethical or moral justification in all of the. I think that is the reason for my moodiness of sorts. Because the basis of my actions do not lie in some deep-rooted conviction. The better part of this that at least you are more logical in the decisions and perceptions in your life. The not too good part is that you have to use your mental faculty and the worse part is that you have to own up the responsibility for your actions. Conventionally you can always rest your mind at rest with the simple comment It has always been done that way, then where did I go wrong. You dont even have to explain to your self why you are acting in a particular way. That is the greatness of conventional wisdom. All things and everyones opinion seems to be right in their own way - whether it sprang from conventional wisdom or conviction or from perspectives. It something like you have lots of perspectives but there is one that grips you more than the others. That becomes you opinion but then an essential ingredient in making a perspective and opinion is conviction. To me everything seems so fluid.. So changing the element of conviction doesnt really creep in. why is it that others are so full of conviction? Is it because they are dearth of perspectives? They can see things only from a single perspective. This again I can never answer nor will I delve much into this. But again conviction comes with the demand of situations and time. You just have to go along with a particular perspective and allow it to grow into an opinion and also put into it all the conviction. This brings to my mind the role of mass media in opinion building. So they really have the right to do something like that. There is no denying the power of words. What I feel is that mass media should stick to facts and not play any role in opinion building. But we cannot curtail the freedom of media because from a particular perspective freedom is an utmost requirement for the functioning of our social machinery. But all opinions should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is fact, which should occupy the prime role in analysis. Getting carried away by opinion however powerfully presented doesnt work out well. Opinions are only perspectives with can be studied but not adopted. Each person should be able to form his own opinion of events and environment based on his own perspective and conviction. Explication of sonnet 0William Shakespeare?s thirtieth sonnet is one of his more somber and nostalgic poems. Full of melancholy language and legal terms, this sonnet explores the author?s discontent with life as the he surveys his past life and all the sorrows it has broughthim (Oxquarry). The poem follows the form of an English sonnet with quatrains and a couplet, and has a rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. In the initial quatrain, the poem establishes its two major ideas. First Shakespeare uses the word sessions, which is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as a ?continuous series of sittings or meetings of a court, a legislative, administrative, or deliberative body.? These sittings provide a courtroom setting, which serves a foundation for all of his proceeding metaphors. He also creates a pondering mood with the phrase sessions of sweet silent thought. The speaker uses the alliteration of the s sound to create a soothing mood in which to calmly begin to review his life. The next line continues with more courtroom language by ?summoning upon? the past events in the speaker?s life. This line calls the court to order, indicating that the author?s official review has begun (Krauthamer). Lines three and four carry a much sadder tone than that of the first. The author?s tale becomes one full of ?old woe?, or depressing memories, and ?new wail? or recent sadness. At the start of the second stanza, the speaker finds himself pondering both feelings of sadness and regret. The fifth and sixth lines specifically refer to the deaths of loved ones and friends that he has outlived. This is illustrated in the following phrase taken from line 6 death?s dateless night. This alliterated thought is a metaphor for the endless night, which is perceived to be life. In lines seven and eight the speaker recounts two more pains he has lived through in his depressing life. These are and vanished sight(s). In this quatrain the speaker cries, weeps, and moans. The increasing sorrow is captured in lines seven and eight in the repeated alliteration weep --- woe and moan --- many. It?s as if the speaker is caught in a rhythmic sobbing.

College Essays on explication of shakespeare's 30th sonnet

The third quatrain?s tone changes from sorrow and anger, but this change is not the sonnet?s turn. This quatrain begins with the speaker recalling grievances, wrongs committed against him. It continues this theme with woes in line ten. In line eleven we find the speaker moaning about past injuries in front of the metaphoric judge and jury. It concludes with the observation that in remembering these woes he is suffering them again. The increased anguish of this quatrain is embodied in the increased and condensed doubling of words throughout the quatrain grieve --- grievances, woe --- woe, bemoaned moan, and pay --- paid. This poor fellow is completely captured by his past. He is almost sputtering with useless hurt. This sets us up for the sonnet?s conclusion. Line thirteen?s But announces the sonnet?s turn. The speaker breaks free of the past by remembering his dear friend. Continuing the courtroom language to the very end, the sonnet tells us that the friend restores all losses and brings this sorrowful remembering to an end. Note that in this sonnet the friend saves the speaker from himself. There were never any real wrongs and sorrows threatening the speaker - only the speaker?s own sorrowful turn of mind. This couplet brings the poem to a rhythmic or musical conclusion by returning us to a very regular rhythm - just as the friend restores the speaker to a regular state of mind. The last line is strictly iambic and neatly divided in two. Please note that this sample paper on explication of shakespeare's 30th sonnet is for your review only. The advertisement I am analysing attempts to display a certain degree of eloquence, and is put forward by Noble Caledonia Limited. The advert is for a holiday at the grand hotel Menaggio, to see "beautiful Italian gardens at their best". In the text of the advert it constantly makes positive references to the exclusiveness of the holiday, these tequniques attempt to create an image of a place surrounded by beautiful scenery and "the most attractive central lake". This is as it makes the location and accommodation seem more attractive to possible customers and increases interest in the holiday. This holiday's target audience is anyone who takes an interest in opera, agriculture and horticulture. The whole package incorporates a mix of all these hobbies/entertainment, and this is why it would appeal to anyone searching for a holiday, who enjoys these pastimes. In the text I have identified the purpose of the advert; to advertise or promote this holiday to anyone who is in search of a holiday. This is as in the text there is much use of adjectives and persuasive language, which are key factors of any advert.

Online writing services offer help on Analysing an Advertisement

Many purposeful visual features make a contribution to the extensive work that has been presented in this advertisement. Layout of images and text is one of the most important factors in the arrangement of a page. On the overall layout of this advertisement's page I can comment on the spacing of the text between the images as being neatly but tightly packed together. This gives a professional view of the holiday with a well presented lay-out. The images are mostly based around the scenery of the resort taking select shots of the surrounding areas. Colour is mostly plain although inside the images bold attractive colour is used. Using this technique it draws the reader's attention to the scenery thus leading back to the original point of attracting the tourist to the holiday resort. This particular advertisement lacks a slogan or a logo, which usually helps to discern between headline and text, this also achieves the effect of drawing the reader's attention to a particular point on the page. Logos and slogans are often also used to define a particular holiday or tour operator from others. Text placement occurs around the images and the density of the text is quite thick and gives more information through description than visual clarification using images. This advertisement also lacks a heading although a title is included in an image. Sub-headings are used frequently as discourse markers to incorporate different aspects of the holiday. In the text imagery is widely used giving extravagant details of facilities available in the resort. This type of imagery includes feelings as in "the water's edge is perfect for relaxing" and also descriptive language such as "the most idyllic scenery imaginable". On a whole the advertisement includes very little bare facts and those that it does include are embellished with flattering adjectives, an example being "this elegant room hotel". Also, many opinions are included in the text such as "the public rooms are stylish" and also "to visit the lovely interesting garden".In conclusion, the overall effect of this advertisement is to influence potential holiday-makers to visit the resort. The main successes of the advertisement is based in its descriptive and charged language, also the selected images present the reader with a well polished article. In my opinion, the advertisement based on all the available information, is a success as it is effective in its purpose and includes ample descriptions and facts to satisfy the reader's enquiries. To sum up, it is a good advertisement, well presented and appealing to the reader and it should fulfil its purpose. Please note that this sample paper on Analysing an Advertisement is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Analysing an Advertisement, we are here to assist you. Title: Snoring is No Laughing Matter Topic: Sleep Apnea Disorder Purpose: To inform my audience about the seriousness of sleep apnea and how you can recognize it as well as treat it.

College Essays on sleep apnea

Thesis Statement: Sleep Apnea, of all sleeping disorders, is the most likely to cause death, but it can be treated if the symptoms are recognized. INTRODUCTION Attention material: (With snoring sounds in background) Does this sound familiar? Do these sounds keep you up all night? Are you a snorer? If so, you are not alone. A National Family Opinion Poll revealed that 90 million people snore - 37 million on a regular basis (CNS). Yes, it can create quite a nuisance, but it can also be the result of a very serious condition. Credibility material: My uncle used to wake his family up and keep them up all night with his snoring. It just seemed to get louder and louder. Very annoying, because everyone needs sleep! The gasps for air between what sounded like growls from a grisly began to worry my aunt. After seeing a specialist, my uncle was diagnosed with a severe case of sleep apnea. Thesis statement: Sleep apnea is the most likely of all sleeping disorders to cause death, but it can be treated if the symptoms are recognized (Greenberg). Transition: Sleep apnea affects 12 million Americans of various age, gender, and ethnicity. (ASAA) BODY The word "apnea" is the Greek word for "without air". When someone snores, there is a partial collapse of the air passage in the throat. But, in sufferers of sleep apnea, there is a complete obstruction to airflow. It can last from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. One will usually have 300-500 apneas a night (CNS). Despite the airflow blockage, the person still tries to breathe, but no air passes through. This results in a brief awakening, which is usually accompanied by a loud snore. The "awakening" opens the airway, and the person breaths rapidly for a short time. Then, they have another apnea. This is a continuous cycle. Alcohol and sleeping medicines can impair one's ability to have an "awakening" and may not wake up during the apnea. This is how one may die from this condition because the lack of air can lead to hypoxia, or lack of oxygen getting to the brain (Krames). Transition: Sleep apnea can also affect other areas of life. Sufferers never are able to reach deep sleep. The condition also causes daytime sleepiness, memory lapses, and irritability. The disturbances in sleep also throw off the body's metabolism and can cause obesity. The most common sufferers are middle-aged overweight males (CNS). Transition: Since this is a progressive and life-altering disease, it is important to recognize the symptoms so they can be treated (show poster). Prosthetic devices and surgery can treat sleep apnea. The most commonly used prosthetic device is the CPAP (Krames), or nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, is made up of an airflow generator, flexible hose, and nasal mask. It gently blows air into the throat to keep the air passage open. It is effective on almost all patients, but it is not a cure. Surgery can also be used to treat sleep apnea. This usually involves relieving the nasal passage of any obstructions. Transition: Therefore, once aware of the condition, the necessary steps should be taken to treat it.CONCLUSION Summary statement: In conclusion, the next time you hear this: (turn on snoring noises), don't drown out the noise by burying your head in the pillows. Instead, listen for the symptoms of this scary condition and maybe you can save the life of someone you care about. Concluding remarks: To find out more information about sleep apnea, seek advice from your doctor or an ear/nose/throat specialist. The themes of the play are dreams and reality, love and magic. This extraordinary play is a play with in a play, which shows how talented the producer is to pull it off. The audience found it very pleasing to watch. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy combining elements of love, fairies, magic, and dreams. This play is a comedy about five couples who suffer through love's strange games and the evil behind the practical tricks. This play begins as Theseus, the Duke, is preparing to marry Hippolyta. He impresses her with his sword. Hermia is in love with Lysander. Egeus, Hermia's father, forbids the relationship with Lysander and orders her to marry Demetrius. Demetrius loves Hermia, but she does not love him. On the other hand, Helena is in love with Demetrius. To settle the confusion, Theseus decides that Hermia must marry Demetrius. In retaliation to her father's command, Hermia and Lysander run away together. Throughout the play there are many references to the gender and sex roles of the characters. The dominating male power and strange sex roles of the characters is going on throughout the play. The ordering of the fairy, human, and natural worlds is a movement toward satisfying men's psychological needs; but it also disrupts women's bonds with each other. In everyday life, women give up their wants to make their men happy as seen in the play. Male domination not only exists between husband and wife, but also between father and daughter. Theseus will not allow Hermia to marry Lysander. Theseus wants her to marry Demetrius. In retaliation to his demands, Lysander and Hermia run away together. Male jealousy and need for dominance ruins women's relationships with friends and also turns to brutality. Hermia and Helena were once intimate friends, but Helena is suspicious of Hermia's involvement in the men's joke against her. Bonds between women are just as important as men's bonds with each other, but jealousy leads to the end of women's happiness. When Helena pursues Demetrius, his male brutality is revealed when he rejects her for another woman and insults her. Also, when the men fall in love with her, she feels like the butt of a joke. This stirs female insecurity and pain, again caused by previous abuse from men. The fantasy world and real world exist apart from each other, never meeting at any point. The inhabitants of the fairy world are unreal in the sense that they lack feelings and intelligence. Oberon's power causes vulnerability in the human world. This fairy kingdom is essentially a dream, which appears whenever reason goes to sleep, and during this time Oberon controls all things. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play concerned with dreaming. Shakespeare reverses the categories of reality and illusion, sleeping and waking, art and nature, to touch upon the central theme of dreams. Dreams are a part if the world of imagination. The dreams come true, but are made to appear invincible. The pattern of the play is controlled and ordered by a series of vital contrasts the conflict of the sleeping and waking states, the interchange of reality and illusion and reason and imagination. Irony is a large element in the play. Many of the situations are ironic. Instead of attracting and falling in love with a nice gentlewoman, Theseus won Hippolyta with his aggresiveness. Also, Helena's affection for Demetrius seems to make him hate her, but the hatred eventually turns to love. Helena constantly pursues Demetrius. Demetrius' cruel treatment ironically compels her to love him more. The fantasy world and erotic nature of the play kept the audience laughing and giggling throughout the whole play. The play was very enjoyful for me to watch. I have learned much more background on Shakespeare as a result of this course. I believe I will continue to read up on Shakespeare and continue to attend plays as I continue after Intro to Theatre. Now I can't say that about all my other classes.

Atticus Finch, a nearly fifty defense lawyer for small Maycomb County, is the honorable father of main character Jean Louise (Scout) and Jemermy (Jem). He is the lawyer for accused black rapist, Tom Robinson, and he tries to change injustices and racism in his small hometown. Atticus inner conflicts and moral dilemmas are expertly written in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Atticuss physical appearance doesnt play a big part in the novel. Atticus is nearly fifty and wears glasses because his left eye is nearly blind. We can assume Atticus normally does not look his age, because Jem and Scout say he looks as old as he was for once. Atticus is also a very neat person, (as seen on page 0), and He never loosened a scrap of clothing until he undressed at bedtime, and to Jem and me, this was the equivalent of him standing before us stark naked. Jem and Scout are Atticus own children and even they havent seen him casually dressed. Atticus character isnt focused of for its appearance, but for his personality and inner strength. Atticus is very fair and just person. In a time when black people were still considered a lower class by almost all, Atticus believed in equality and equal rights for all. His beliefs were summarized in his powerful closing at Tom Robinsons trial. He said, on page 04, "Confident that you gentlemen, would go along with them on one assumption, the evil assumption, that all Negroes lie, that all Negroes are immoral beings, that all Negroes are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption that of one mind of their caliber. Which gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson's skin, a lie that I don't have to point out to you. You know the truth. The truth is this some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some Negro men can't be trusted around women, black or white. But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men."Atticus fights for Tom Robinson with all of himself, he does not care about his skin color, only his innocence. Atticus represents all of the honorable people in Maycomb County. Atticus Finch is a very honest man. When his children ask his difficult questions he doesnt try and sugarcoat his answers, he is blunt and forthcoming. Scout asks, on page 1, if they are poor.Atticus nodded. We are indeed. he answers. He even explains his ideaoly on answering childrens question to his brother, Jack. On page 87 he says, Jack! When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness sake. But dont make a big production of it. Children are children, but they can spot an evasion quicker than adults, and an evasion simply muddles them.

Atticus is a very compassionate and perceptive man. In the very beginning of the novel, directly after Scout returns from her hard day at school, Atticus realizes something is wrong and inquires about it. Atticus is also you compassionate to Mrs. Dubose. He feels pity for her condition and pride for her ability to go through withdrawal. He understands why Mrs. Dubose is so grouchy and tells Jem and Scout that Shes an old lady and shes ill. You just hold your head up high and be a gentleman. Whatever she says to you, its your job not to let her make you mad. When Tom Robinson is in the county jail Atticus realizes people will try and go after him to harm him, so Atticus guards him to ensure his safety. After Tom Robinson dies Atticus realizes how Toms wife, Helen, must feel. Atticus goes over to her house to offer his condolences. Atticus is a very sympathetic and insightful person. Atticus is a very deep character. His wisdom and honor make the readers look up to him. Atticus Finch is the epitome of a good man. SharksThere are over 00 different types of sharks. But only a few are used for cooking. They include Blacktip, Bonito, Common Thresher, Mako, Sandbar, Smooth Dogfish, Soupfin, Spiny Dogfish. Shark has no bones. Their body structure is supported by cartilage. Sharks also don't have a swim bladder, which helps fish float. Since cartilage is lighter than bone sharks are able to float. This makes cooking a lot easier for the chef. Shark is not a common entr e at restaurants but is becoming popular to the consumer. Shark has a pinkish flesh just like salmon. The Soupfin shark is used as a gelatin base in a Chinese Soup. The blacktip shark has a white-pinkish flesh with ruby red edges. This is the most popular shark. The Mako looks and taste a lot like swordfish. Spiny and smooth dogfish have the most fatty flesh than other sharks. These are the only sharks that can be used to cook with. Most shark is sold as steaks or filets. The body of the shark is unique to be a fish. It has no bones and only cartilage to support the body. This makes their bodies more flexible, but also makes the shark a little clumsier. Sharks have 5 fins. The Caudal, 1st and nd Dorsal, Anal, Pectoral, and Pelvic. They have 5 to 7 gills unlike most fish who have 1. Some species have gills on top of their head where their ears should be. These are like a baby gill; more active sharks have very tiny ones or none at all. They have several rows of teeth and can grow them back as needed. The teeth are very strong and sharp. The color of the shark is special; it helps keep the shark protected from predators above and below. The shark is defiantly a unique fish.

Write a research paper on Sharks

It is easy to recognize the quality of a shark. Shark can give off a slight ammonia smell. This is ok, but if it is too strong than it has gone bad. Shark will be sold either fresh or frozen. When you buy steaks or filets make sure they look moist and the flesh should be translucent. To store the shark, take it from the package and rinse it off. Fish can go bad when it sits in its own juices. Place it in a shallow pan with crushed ice. Set the steaks on top and wrap. Then set them in a fridge. Shark can be frozen for to 4 months. Some shark is available all year round like Bonito, Mako, and Sandbar. Thresher is popular during April Through August. Blacktip is in season November to April. Shark is not a problem to get. Shark is always caught fresh from the sea and sold at the market. You can find fresh shark only on the east and west coast. To prepare shark it must be bled soon as it is caught. discovering that America wasn't the dream that theyhad imagined it to be, Chavez was able to help thesepeople realize some of that dream. Chavezrevolutionized the labor force and was the recipientof the Presidential Medal of Freedom.Cesar Estrada Chavez was born on March 1 in 17, ona small farm near Yuma, Arizona. This land washomesteaded by his grandfather in the 1880's.Unfortunately, because of the depression and owing$4,080 in back taxes, the Estrada family lostpossession of their family owned grocery store andland. Two years later, they moved to California wherethey joined thousands of other migrant families in thefields. Cesar got his first taste of field labor whenhe had to quit school and work because his father wasin a car accident. In 144, Chavez joined the US Navy but two year wasdischarged and went home to work in the fields. Hewould marry Helen Fabela in 148. The family thenmoved to San Jose where Cesar worked in a lumber mill.It is here that Chavez met Father Donald McDonnell, aCatholic Priest from San Francisco sent to work withthe farm laborers. McDonnell introduced Chavez to theChurch's social doctrines on labor organizing andsocial justice. Chavez began to read papalencyclopedias on labor, labor history, the teachingsof St. Francis of Assisi and Louis Fisher's The LifeOf Gandhi. All of these works influenced him in hisphilosophical approach to the farm worker movement. That same year, he is recruited by Fred Ross, anorganizer for the Community Service Organization, tohelp to be an organizer for Saul Alinsky's CommunityService Organization. The CSO sent Chavez, in 158, toOxnard to confront the bracero program. This programwas one in which the growers, with the governmentshelp, lowered wagers and exploited the farm laborers. In 16, Chavez resigned from the CSO and movedDelano with his family to start the Farm WorkersAssociation (FWA). By 164, there are 1000 members and50 locals. Chavez and the FWA join the AFL-CIO unionstrike against major Delano wine grape growers.Against great odds, Chavez led a successful strikethat lasted 5 years and rallied millions of supportersto the FWA. This strike merged the FWA and the AFL-CIOin 166. Chavez made sure that the FWA adhered tonon-violent means and in 165 conducted a 5-day fastto reaffirm their pledge to non-violence. EvenSenator Robert F. Kennedy went to Delano to be withhim when the fast ended. By 170, the boycott convinced most grape growers tosign contracts with the FWA. However, that same year, the vegetable industry signed "sweetheart" pacts withthe Teamsters Union. When the FWA's contracts came upfor renegotiation in 17, the growers signed with theTeamsters Union. This prompted 10,000 farm workers inCalifornia to walk out of the fields and protest.Chavez called for a new worldwide boycott on grapes.By 175, a poll showed that 17 million Americans werehonoring the grape boycott. This forced the CaliforniaGovernor Jerry Brown's collective bargaining law forfarm workers, the 175 Agricultural Labor RelationsAct. For years following, Chavez would continue tofight the grape growers, participating in several moreboycotts and fasts. Chavez passed away on April , 1. More that40,000 people participated in his funeral in Delano,California. Many people had declared the union deadafter Chavez's death. But his son-in-law, Arturo S.Rodriguez, led a 4-mile march from Delano toSacramento, demonstrating the strength of the UFA. At Dawn They Slept~December 7, 141~Leigh Downing Mr. Vandermuese Statements are made even though we hear no words. This piece of music really speaks to me and touches my soul to the point that I almost cried the first time I played it. The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 141 is a sensitive and heroic topic. When I listen to the music I hear the music of life, tragedy, death and determination.

The opening measures of the piece represent to me the sunrise of that terrible day in 141. The chromatic climb and crescendo in measures 7 through 10 lead to a profound statement using the triplet patterns. This climb shows the sunrise over Pearl Harbor and the triplet patterns hint of the military presence in those parts. The music then settles down to a mezzo piano and in measure 16 begins the tranquil melody. The composer, Jay Bocook changes meters and the mood of the music using subtle timbres like clarinet and oboe. When I hear this melody, I think of the simple life and times of 141. The peaceful and laid-back life in the Pacific, not expecting an attack of any sort. The beautiful climax of the melody, which happens in measures 5 and 6, really touches the soul. The melody begins in the lower registers and then reaches toward the sky, but during all this the dynamic never swells too loud and the mood is set in molto tranquillo. Measures 4 to 61 tell the story of the morning and the daily activity of Pearl Harbor. The melody is so beautiful and petit, something that I have grown fond of. In measure 61, Bocook places a bugle call almost foreshadowing the fate of the harbor. Over the course of the next 14 measures, the mixture of timbres creates chaos and a long crescendo produces a crude chord played by the lower timbres. Death is upon Pearl Harbor now. In measure 75 Bocook begins the attack. The markings allegro agitato are seen above the staff. The meter changes once again to a 4/4 and the remnants of staccato eighth notes interpreted by disguised accents and different notes plague the next section of music. In the next measures, Bocook tries to display the absolute chaos and carnage that took place. We hear clanging of metal produced by the percussion section, we hear bullets produced by fast eighth notes and we hear bombs dropping in measures 6 and 7 with the protruding melody of the trombones. In measure 116, the woodwind section screams out a melody, which I feel is the last cry for help from the harbor's citizens. We still hear bullets and carnage from the saxophones and flutes. In measure 1 and 1 the upper woodwinds have a trill, which I think is very nasty and cruel. The attack is over now and the trill shakes the souls of the dead and dying. The tempo screeches to almost a halt and the chords become more resolved and mellow. In measure 141 until 14, Bocook places us in a 6/4 meter. I'm not too sure why he does this. I feel that it is to place a little intensity, yet give us the assurance that it is over. In 14 we come to the close of the piece. The majesty and power of the last measures of the piece is unreal. To me, what Bocook is trying to say is even though Pearl Harbor's melody was destroyed, it still lives on today and is more decorated and stunning than ever. The melody is taken and decorated and elaborated with eighth notes and sixteenth notes, yet still the simple quarter notes from measures 16 to 4 remain hidden. The heart of Pearl Harbor was not lost; it came back and was more powerful than in the beginning. What a piece of music. I would love to hear another band play this piece, so I could just listen and watch. Bocook makes a profound salute to the great service men and women of this country that lost their lives on December 7, 141. Calm, intense and majestic all describe this very patriotic piece. Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines patriotism as love for or devotion to ones country. However, the word patriotism strikes lots of mixed emotions all over the United States. Some people describe themselves as involved patriots because they fly their American flag outside in their yards, when others see the word patriotism as disgusting, the seed of racism. Patriotism to me, along with many others, means of course to have love for our homeland, our country, to support, serve and defend, to be inspired by, to change for the better and to care deeply for fellow Americans. After September 11th, a lot of people showed their love for this country by doing things like standing in line to donate blood, registering with the army, or even as little as wearing the American colors. Patriots support the countries authorities, laws, and interest. However this does not mean that true Americans should agree with whatever the President of the United States has to say and be blinded by what's really going on in America. One of the biggest issues today is that people feel like the President has used patriotism with the American people to start a war with other countries. New posters in store windows along with billboards posted along the roads encourage the American people to become one and to show their love for their country. I believe that true patriotism doesn't have to be encouraged but is something that we feel 4 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. Patriotism is to be proud of where you are from, and to love everyone around you weither they are natives of that country or not. Patriotism is not to have hate for anyone that's foreign, or to think your country is better or strong then others for no reason. On the other hand, patriotism to some people is a superstition that is artificially created and maintained through a network of lies and falsehoods; a superstition that robs man of this self-respect and dignity, and increases his arrogance and conceit. Instead of being just a love of ones country, these people believe that the patriotic individual is blinded by what the government is telling us. That patriots will go along with any ideas the government may have if put in a manner that concerns their country. People that don't believe in patriotism also believe that to be patriotic requires allegiance to the flag, which means obedience and readiness to kill father, mother, brother and sister. The September 11th attack is a perfect example to help support this idea behind patriotism. After hearing that another country would do such a thing, people everywhere signed up to go into the Army for war. Without really knowing what they were getting themselves into, young men, old men, even women were willing to just go kill others that had nothing to do with attack in a sense. If this point is raised then the patriotic people can raise the point that the people that did sign up might have been for war with this country but they were standing up for their country and the people that died in the attack. After all, that is the real definition of patriotism. I believe that there are different levels of patriotism. To have patriotism and to love the country that you where born and live, to love the people around you and to want to wave the American flag in your yard is to show your patriotism. To hate people of different races just because they aren't from the land you love so much, or to go along with anything the government says without understand it just because they say it will do your country good, all of this is not patriotic. Different people have different reasons why they are patriotic and how they choose to be so. There is a long line of people in my family that has fought for our country and freedom, even some deaths. This is one reason why my family is so patriotic. Just because my family has a huge American flag flying high in the front yard 4 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long with a spot light on it, doesn't mean we have the obedience and readiness to kill father, mother, brother and sister. We do it because we love the American flag and what it stands for.

Autumn is the third season of the year and has been associated with many depressing times. Autumn has also defined as the "season of early decay." The phrase, "Autumn Years", means the final years of someone's life. John Keats portrays his feelings on how this season is affected by be the idea of death in the poem, "To Autumn." He uses the season, autumn, to show how the change of the season is closely related to the change of life. He explains his reasons by comparing life to a harvest in three stanzas. Each stanza represents birth, life, and death. Throughout the poem, time progresses slowly like the seasons. Keats uses time and autumn to reveal that life can be beautiful, but also short; so enjoy it, and to remember that everything in life has a purpose."The season of mists and mellow fruitlessness," in the first stanza represents early autumn, the beginning of life. He compares the harvest to a human life. In harvesting, crops begin to grow and mature to reach the stage where they can be collected and stored for next winter. In life, someone is born; they grow up until the time comes for them to move out on their own to start a family. "Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; conspiring with him how to load and bless," furthermore illustrates a mother to child relationship. He believes that, just as harvests need sunlight to grow; a child also needs a mother to grow. As time passes, the second stanza shows the outcome of ripening crops. The gathering of the crops is now taking place. "Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours," in the life sense means, a person's life has gone through the cycle and now at the stage to end. Keats uses "the gleaner," the gather sleeping it the gully to symbolize how life needs to be taken slowly and enjoyed. Also he expresses autumn as a female goddess, often seen sitting on the granary floor, her hair, "soft-lifted" by the wind, and often seen sleeping in the fields or watching a cider-press squeezing the juice from the apples. Keats is describing a mother that has raised her children and they are almost at the age to leave the house. She is shown taking time off to herself to think about her life, her grown children, and to enjoy the beauty of the day.Time ends in the third and final stanza for both the harvest and life. Autumn and spring are compared in the stanza. Autumn stands for the ending or death, while spring represents the beginning or birth. Death is just as important in life as spring, without one there would not be the other. "Where are the songs of spring? Ay where are they?" asks how has time passed so quickly? The speaker tells them not to think about spring, but to focus on what is going on now. The "humming of the gnats, the full-grown lambs, the crickets singing, and the gathering of the swallows all signify that in time spring will come again; the fields will grow again and the whole process will repeat itself. In life, we are predestined to die, but our children and our memories will continue through the cycle of life.As the seasons go through their change, so do our lives; we are born, we live and grow up, and then we die. The purpose of John Keats' poem, "To Autumn" was to make an understanding that although autumn represents the end of life; spring is not too far behind as the beginning of new life. Keats focuses much on the significance of time to explain that everything in live has a purpose; our lives are just like the four seasons; constantly changing from birth in the spring to death in autumn, so that we reach our final destination, which is death or the end. By understanding that, remember that as the seasons change and a piece of our lives follow throughout the cycle of life forever.
