The first glimpse of Robert's abilities that he respects is during dinner when he "watched with admiration as [Robert] used his knife and fork on the meat (115)." He also refers to Robert as a jack-of-all-trades and he is impressed with the things Robert is able to do and has accomplished. The final scene of the novel truly allows the narrator to view life with a new set of eyes.
