Prom night is supposed to be a perfect night in a girl's life. It is supposed to be the bittersweet climax of one's high school career. I carried these stereotypes associated with prom over into my expectations for the night. I expected my prom to be one of the most fun, vibrant nights of my life. I was positive June 7, 00 would reign in my heart as a special, unforgettable night. My prom night was indeed unforgettable, but unfortunately for me, it was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.I had been visualizing my prom since I was in grade school. I'd always imagined I'd wear a beautiful Cinderella gown and spend the night with my Prince Charming. Well the gown aspect came true. My mother bought me a gorgeous, purple, strapless gown. I was sure it would be the envy of every girl there. A few months before the dance my friend John and I decided to go together. I was walking on air; I had the dress, I had the gorgeous date. I was in for the time of my life.Well I was so wrong; I shudder to even relive the experience. The day started off well enough. I went and got my hair done and came home to get dressed. I enjoyed taking pictures with my entire family and being gushed over. At four o'clock my mother drove me to my friend Katie's house where our limo was picking us up. About thirty of my friends ended up there in all. Picture taking went smoothly. I felt like I was at the Grammy awards instead of my friend's backyard. This was the point where the disaster began. The limo was due to pick up my friends and I at five thirty. Six o'clock rolled around, and then six thirty; no limo. My friend Mike was on the phone with the limo company, screaming about lawsuits and bill deductions. It was about 100 degrees that day and all of us were literally melting. Everyone was crowded in the living room to try and escape the suffocating heat. Make-up had to be reapplied and everyone was beginning to get on the irritated, catty side.

The limo finally arrived at 645. Little did I know, while the girls were trying to cool off, some of the guys had decided to hard-core pre game. A couple of bottles of vodka later, a good majority of the guys were popped. This alone enraged me because just the day before I asked my date not to drink, because I knew how trashed he could get. We were outside the limo when my date started to throw up. We managed to get him inside but he spent the entire forty-five minute ride in the limo's bathroom throwing up. Once at the dance, it took us 10 minutes to get him out of the bathroom and into the dance. By this time it was about seven thirty and we had missed half of dinner. I ended up missing the rest of it because I was in the bathroom with him while he threw up some more. In the middle of this fiasco, the principal walked into the men's room and promptly threw me out of it. After some quick talking, his twin sister and I smuggled him out of the dance and put him a motel room across the street to sleep. Determined to enjoy at least some of my prom I headed back to the dance without my date. Two hours passed and I admit I did have fun. I danced nonstop with all of my friends. At about ten o'clock his sister came to get me so we could go retrieve her brother. I ended up getting sidetracked, talking to a teacher and she went alone.About ten minutes later she came back extremely angry. She had walked in on John hooking up with a mutual friend of ours. She told me what she had seen and I felt like someone had punched me in my stomach. I immediately starting crying hysterically, and fell into a chair. Fifteen minutes later, John and my friend returned to the dance looking flushed and guilty. John tried to apologize to me but I wouldn't hear it. I told my friend she was lucky I hadn't walked in, because I would have thrown her nasty ass out a window.Eventually I caved in to John and agreed to dance with him, mainly because I wanted just one half hour of normalcy. I had to spend the weekend after the dance camping with John and I avoided him as much as possible. What he had done was inexcusable. He had ruined what was supposed to be one of the most perfect nights of my life. Although we're friends again, I still remind him of what he did whenever the opportunity arises (usually when I've been drinking). After much thought to the issue, I came to the conclusion that I set my standards for the night too high. I expected everything to be picture perfect and of course, nothing is perfect. I was too highly wrapped up in my princess image of the night that I didn't stop to anticipate what could potentially go wrong. I still don't think I overreacted to the whole situation but I think I could have gone into it with a different frame of mind. I think if I had loosened up my standards for the night then the whole experience actually could have become humorous instead of traumatizing. I bought too much into the stereotypes involving prom. This didn't make the night any better. It just made me more upset that my "perfect" night was being flushed away. I shouldn't have flipped out so extremely on John, because he was just trying to have a good time like me. He couldn't have predicted the way the night would turn out, and if he could have I know he would have rearranged his actions too. From my experience, I took away the life lesson to predict the unpredictable. A lot of hurt and pain will be saved if an individual doesn't expect everything to be flawless. I was superficial and refused to look beyond standards that were anything less than perfect. All I received in return was a night of disaster, and a lot of embarrassment. Please note that this sample paper on Prom is for your review only.
