Sharks. You got to love them. This is the shark everyone loves to hate. There are about four groups I can organize sharks into, Almost Harmless, More Dangerous, Fairly Common, and Weird Sharks. They are the only species that fascinate me to every extent. They could be harsh and deadly animals but very interesting and amazing creatures to learn about. To start off, there are list of every different kind of sharks that live today. My favorite, The Great White. A large White Shark is capable of eating a person not just biting them. The thought of being eaten alive scares people so much that they become irrational about anything to do with sharks. The Great White are ranged to live up to 100 years old. Most of the largest Great Whites have been found in South Australia and this is still one of the best spots in the world to go and see these sharks. The largest officially recorded was 6.4 meters (1 feet) long and weighed 70lb. The Great White gives birth to live young unlike many other sharks that lay eggs. The newly born shark gets no help from the mother and must fend for itself. A newborn Great White is believed to be around four feet long from unborn sharks found in a pregnant female. The smallest White shark ever caught was 47 long and thought to be newly born. They grow about 10/5cm each year and reach maturity in about 10 years. The Great White has some of the most highly developed senses of any creature including other sharks. Small holes around the sharks head called Ampullae of Lorenzini, look like skin pores. They are filled with a jelly like substance and it is by these that a Great White shark can pick up electrical charges as small as .005 micro volt. They can detect prey just by the electrical field generated by a beating heart orgill action. They can also detect fish that are hiding.

As I described one severely dangerous shark, I would like to talk about a weird shark. Its interesting to know different kinds of sharks. This shark really stand up to his name, the goblin shark. This is one of the most bizarre looking sharks. When I first seen the goblin shark I thought it was some alien looking species. It has a huge pointed snout with tiny eyes. Everyone's major concern is, is it deadly? No this shark is harmless to humans. It is thought to grow to almost 4 meters. It prefers very deep water and has been known in depths to 100 meters. Now on to an almost harmless shark. One that caught my attention was the beautiful Zebra Sharks. These are beautiful sharks and can be very friendly to divers. They can grow quite large but are not considered dangerous. They are often found in water 5 - 0 meters deep. They can grow to over .5 meters long. Often found along the north-east coast of Australia. As they mature they get spotted like a leopard. They are often seen lying on the bottom but it can be quite exciting when a number start swimming around you. This is shark that's fairly common to us and it's the White-Tipped Reef Shark. They are a long, thin shark with a second dorsal fin nearly as big as the first. Both fins and the top of the tail fin are tipped in white. They can grow to a bit over meters. Their teeth are small, narrow and best suited for holding prey. Although they are not considered dangerous they can become very excited in a feeding situation such as the hand feed many boats do these days. They are thought to live for about 5 years. They become more active late afternoon and night They often lie around in groups and sometimes as many as eight sharks can be seen together. They are one of the few sharks that a diver may be lucky enough to see mating They are often indifferent to divers unless harassed. They do not like to be chased. In this state they can easily run into you or even bite. Now I will discuss about how some sharks attack and why. There seems to be two main views on sharks. Those that think there are hundreds of Great White Sharks waiting to eat people at the shoreline and those that think that sharks are not really dangerous and want to pet them. I think a view somewhere between these two would be more realistic. It should be remembered that all sharks can bite, just like all fish can bite. Apart from any actual damage, just the fright of getting bitten by a large fish can panic a diver. If you dont touch them and dont chase them you should have no problems. The sharks that can really do a lot of damage to humans are the ones with large triangular shaped upper teeth with serrated edges. These teeth are made for tearing flesh. Long pointy teeth are made for holding prey before swallowing. Thats why sharks with long, narrow teeth dont consider divers their dinner! Were just too big. But that doesnt mean they cant do a lot of damage or in extreme cases even kill. However, when you think about the millions of surfers, swimmers, snorklers, and divers that go into our oceans, it is amazing that not more people are attacked. It really goes to show that most sharks are not interested in attacking us. Sharks may have up to ,000 teeth at one time. Most sharks do not chew their food, but gulp it down whole it in large pieces. The teeth are arranged in rows; when one tooth is damaged or lost, it is replaced by another. Most sharks have about 5 rows of teeth at any time. The front set is the largest and does most of the work. Please note that this sample paper on sharks is for your review only.
