No, discrimination and prejudice are different. Let's first look at discrimination. Discrimination is defined as (1) "A negative action taken against an individual as a result of his or her group." This tells us that discrimination is an Action. Discrimination comes in many forms. Race, age, gender, weight, economic, same sex relationships, discrimination knows almost no boundaries. Let's take a look at the different types.Race discrimination. This is one of that larger forms and most prevalent in society. Age discrimination. This form of discrimination was only addressed thirty-four years ago. In the late 60's a law was finally passed that made it illegal to fire, or refuse employment based solely on age. What isn't known is that in some states it is illegal to put a modular home on private property not designated a modular home park. This is where the stereotype comes from just as it would from a poverty stricken inner city.Gender stereotyping. As being a member of the United States Navy I have been to several classes on discrimination against women. It wasn't till only recently in the past 15 years the U.S. Navy started to equip it's ship to house women also. Even to this day the carrier USS Constellation is still a all male carrier. This is a topic near and dear to my heart because I met my wife in the Navy and she is a true sailor just as I was. She is a Aviation Electronics Technician who comes home with bruises on her legs and arms and stomach from carrying large 50-80lbs Radar boxes form aircraft to aircraft I know this because I worked with her. She does it because "it's her job, and she doesn't want to guys to make fun of her". Just last winter she was out at sea for 11 days without seeing land!!
